Mia
Female x breed - 9 months

Photograph not preserved in the archive.

Mia has had a rough time since finding herself abandoned at the pound as a young pup. She came into care with a bad case of kennel cough from which she has now made a full recovery after a battle that lasted a few months. She was also displaying odd development of her back legs and was limping, this was perhaps the result of a poor diet as a young pup. Xrays and vet investigations took place and she is now showing improvement. On top of this she has, for the last month, had a urinary tract problem which required further xrays and is currently under special treatment to see if this is a one off problem or not.
Mia's vet fees so far have come to $1,148. If you can help us cover some of these additional vet costs please call Judy on 9674 4824 or email [email protected] or click below.

Akina
Female DSH Tabby/Torti - 4 months

Photograph not preserved in the archive.

Poor Akina came into care with a heavy worm burden that didn't respond to the usual worming protocols. With a build up of worms so bad that she had a hard lump in her intestines she was rushed to the vets where she was able to receive treatment and get rid of the worms. She'd lost a lot of weight during this time, but only days later she was out of the woods and on her way to a full recovery.
Akina's vet fees have come to $120. If you can help us cover some of these additional vet costs please call Judy on 9674 4824 or email [email protected] or click below.

Carlo
Male DSH Tabby -

carlo08

Carlo, after being in foster care for 7 years, will remain with his carer permanently after being diagnosed with Lymphomia. He had localised swelling to the face, enlarged lymph nodes and inflammation to his joints with tenderness to his middle body. After anti-inflammatory shots his joing stiffness has improved and for the moment he seems content just lazing around more than usual. Carlo also has a weakened kidney and requires Hills c/d diet for the duration of his life.
While Carlo is fairly happy and showing no signs of distress or pain then he will remain with his foster carer where he is much loved and very comfortable.
We are seeking sponsorship to help cover Carlo's ongoing food and medical costs.
If you can help then please contact Megan on 9627 2767, email [email protected] or

Khoda
Male Rotti x - 5 months

Photograph not preserved in the archive.

Update 1/6/10 - Physio Report: Khodea initially presented to this clinic with spinal and hip pain, ungainly unco-ordinated walk, dragging both hind limbs whilst walking, with audible scraping of nails on hind limbs, reluctant or unable to stand for longer than 30 seconds or to walk further than a few metres. Khodea has had 2 sessions weekly of physiotherapy, acupuncture, hydrotherapy. He has improved to the extent that he is now able and willing to walk 3 kms daily, has no sign of spinal pain (has not been on pain medication for 2 weeks),and has a more co-ordinated gait. He still drags his hind limbs, with audible scraping of nails, but a lot less than at start of treatment. Overall this has been a great improvement.
Update 4/4/10: Khodea has been on a month long course of weekly injections to ease the pain in his back & hips, and is still on daily pain mediation tablets. Every 3 months he will need a booster injection to continue easing the pain. He is also on a special diet to stop him growing too fast and is restricted to only very short walks a few times a week. Even though he has all these problems, he is still a very happy and loving dog who just wants to be with people and have a belly rub.
Khoda is currently under vet assessment after being diagnosed with hip dysplasia and inflammation of the spine. On top of this he has developed a septic infection of his front leg which he probably picked up from his mother when only a young puppy. This means poor Khoda is in quite a bit of pain at the moment but the infection should heal under the treatment he is now on. His hips are being monitored while he undergoes treatment and further diagnosis will be given in a few weeks.
In the meantime his vet work has been extensive and we are seeking sponsorship to help us cover some of these additional costs.
Khoda's vet fees have so far come to $2,612. If you can help please call Judy on 9674 4824 or email [email protected] or click below.

Tommy
Male Ginger DSH - 5yrs

tommy

Update 9/1/2010: Sadly Tommy's run of medical bad luck is continuing and has taken a turn for the worse. Tommy was diagnosed with untreatable cancer of the mouth after 2 large tumours were found on his gums. The tumours are growing and his condition is being monitored to ensure he isn't in too much pain or discomfort. For now he is resting at his carers home where he feels very much loved and safe and they will continue to care for him until his condition worsens.
Tommy's tests and initial hospitalisation have come to $585. If you can assist with sponsorship for some of these costs please contact us or click on the donate button below

Renbury Kittens
Litter of 4 tabby kittens - 4 weeks

Photograph not preserved in the archive. Photograph not preserved in the archive.

Kitten season has well and truly arrived for 2009 and this litter of 4 kittens was rescued from the pound where they were dumped without a mother. At this young age, without the protection of their mum's milk they are highly susceptible to illness. Sadly this litter came down with cat flu and what appears to be be a gastro bug as well. Given their young age, despite getting vet treatment early and being monitored at the vets over a period of 3 days 2 of these little babies didn't make it. We are pleased to say the bigger two of the litter seem to have pulled through and are back home with their carer doing well.
If you can help sponsor some of the additional vet costs incurred in looking after these kittens please call Judy on 9674 4824 or email [email protected] or click below. These extra vet fees have come to $200

Dusty
Female Jack Russell - 5 years

dustyjr2

Dusty is a lovely little girl who has had a rough life. She was found roaming the streets scared and hungry. When she was finally brought into care she was in a very poor state having mammary lumps, skin irritations, ear infection and on top of all that she was pregnant. Since being in care she has had the mammary lumps removed ( they turned out to be nothing serious) her ear and skin infections are all healed. Dusty's vet bills have come to $ 390 and we are seeking sponsorship to help us cover these additional costs.
If you can help sponsor some of Dusty's additional vet costs please call Judy on 9674 4824 or email [email protected] or click below. Dusty's extra vet fees have come to $390

Puppies
5 mastiff x pups

Photograph not preserved in the archive.

This mum and bubs were rescued from a country pound and sadly the babies have now all come down with Parvo. This is often a fatal disease in young pups and all 5 are now fighting for their lives at our vet clinic on drips.
Update 21/10/08: Sadly the smallest little puppy didn't make it. The other 4 are still fighting but 3 of them are doing a bit better today so we are hopeful they will pull through
Update 23/10/08: 3 of the puppies are now well enough to go home, unfortunately puppy number 4 is still critical at the vets.
Update 25/10/08: All 4 puppies are now at home with their foster carer and although they still have a tough few days ahead, they are expected to make a full recovery
Update 27/10/08: Sadly the 4th little girl took a turn for the worse today and didn't make it. The remaining 3 are doing well.
Update 15/11/08: All the other 3 puppies are doing well and will go to their new homes at the end of November. We are still seeking sponsorship to cover their large vet bill. If you can help please contact us

If you can help sponsor these pups, whose vet bill so far has come to $3000, then please call Judy on 9674 4824 or email [email protected] or click below

Poor Frank came into care as a baby kitten suffering trauma to his tail, in the vets opinion most likely from being swung around by his tail. Frank has fully recovered and will thankfully go on to lead a normal, happy life. If you can help sponsor some of these vet bills then please call Judy on 9674 4824 or email [email protected] or click here:

Ongoing Sponsorship & General Donations

DCH Animal Adoptions relies solely on our adoption fees and the generous support of the community to continue our rescue work. Many times we are faced with large veterinary bills due to the illness and injury that comes along with looking after pound rescues.
From time to time we will highlight special needs animals on this page and ask the public to help us with our efforts to rehabilitate or provide vet work to a particular animal, however, we also need ongoing help. Your support, however large or small is greatly appreciated
